CHICKASHA — The Chickasha City Council recently approved payment of a housing allowance to City Manager Keith Johnson, as previously authorized.

The council inked an employment contract with Johnson last September, but he didn’t assume his duties with the city of Chickasha until last November, the city’s website relates.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Keith’s caliber, and with his experience, coming to lead in Chickasha,” Mayor Chris Mosley said at the time.

The $10,000 payment on Feb. 6 was “due to Johnson contracting to lease or purchase a home in the city limits of Chickasha,” municipal records reflect.

Previously, Johnson was the county administrator of Franklin County, Washington. Prior to that he served as Oklahoma’s state comptroller and as director of the Idaho Department of Administration and Idaho State Controller.

He also has worked in the private sector as director of state and local government for the software company Oracle.

Johnson is a certified public accountant and an attorney. He succeeds former City Manager Tyler Brooks.

The City Council hired Brooks on Sept. 16, 2021, to start work “not later than Oct. 11,” but he resigned nine months later, on June 20, 2022, effective immediately.
