CHICKASHA — The second phase of restoration of the old Savoy Hotel building downtown is poised to begin.

Most of the original flooring was removed and has been replaced with plywood sheets; permanent hardwood flooring will be overlain later, developer Chet Hitt said. “That will be installed last, because we don’t want to scratch it,” he said.

Particle board material laced with asbestos was ripped out of the ceiling and will be replaced with copper tin tiles.

“I’m working with an architect on the kitchen, the bar, and restrooms,” Hitt told Southwest Ledger last week.

He said he had “a tough time finding the bar I wanted” for what will be the “Savoy 1902 BBQ and Deli.” However, “I found a company right there in Chickasha that does high-end work throughout the country. He can build anything. So I sent him the plans for what I want built.”

Hitt said he’s also seeking approval on “new windows and design work for the front of the building.” He indicated that next month he intends to start on the remodel of the Savoy’s façade and windows, “and then we’ll have another surprise that I’m excited about.”

The California businessman said he plans to return to Chickasha on June 10 and remain through the end of the month.”

Hitt, a 1982 Anadarko High School graduate, said he hopes to have the Savoy renovation project finished by the end of this year.
