CHICKASHA — A new member was appointed to the City Council last week to fill a vacancy.

Chickasha Public Schools Supt. Rick Croslin was nominated by Mayor Chris Mosley and will complete the unexpired term of Ward 2 Councilman Nate McCalla, who resigned recently.

Croslin, the school superintendent for the last three years, said he heard some muttering that “the school hadn’t really worked at being part of this community.” Consequently, school administrators and employees are “trying to be more involved in community affairs,” he told Southwest Ledger.

As an illustration, “We’re participating in organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Optimist and Rotary clubs,” Croslin said.

The school is “trying to lead by example. We’re teaching our students to be involved in their community,” he said. “We have a great community to live in, for our kids to grow up in.”

The newest council member said he has “no plan” to seek election to the office next year. “But you never know...”
