Commissioners delay action on water district

Body

LAWTON — The Board of Comanche County Commissioners postponed action Monday on a request to organize the Pecan Valley Waterworks Association as a rural water district.

The board decided to table the issue for a week because an attorney with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, which regulates public utilities, needed more information about the request.

Pecan Valley Waterworks is a private company which provides water and sewer service to the communities of Pecan Valley and Shelter Lakes, located on the west side of Lawton. The company is seeking reorganization as a rural water district, which would benefit the community and make federal funds available for upgrades.

If the board signs off on the petition, the company would no longer exist. It would be replaced by a community-owned nonprofit organization known as the Pecan Valley Rural Water District, which would continue providing water and sewer service to the communities it serves.
