Absences lead to Altus councilwoman's removal

ALTUS – Ward 2 Councilwoman Patricia Blackman has been removed from serving on the Altus City Council because of excessive absences from scheduled meetings. Blackman had missed four of six meetings in a four-month period.

Pae chosen to help lead criminal justice reform panel

OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Daniel Pae, R-Lawton, was recently selected by the Millennial Action Project as one of two leaders of the bipartisan 2022 Criminal Justice Reform Advisory Council, according to a news release from Pae’s office.

Lawton launches job applicant portal

LAWTON – The city of Lawton’s human resources department began accepting job applications in its new Applicant Portal earlier this month. The  Applicant Portal will allow job seekers to easily apply for positions available with the city of Lawton, according to a news release from City Hall.

Area schools slowly returning to normal after January virus spike

FLETCHER -- Fletcher’s school chief admitted that COVID-19 hit the district hard last month, but life is almost back to normal. “We had a big influx (of cases) after Christmas forcing us to shut down for a couple of days because we didn’t have enough staff,” Superintendent Shane Gilbreath said.

Suspected bandit didn’t even get to count his loot

OKLAHOMA CITY – A suspected bank robber had just a few minutes to enjoy his loot.         Lucas McQuade Biggs, 30, identified in an arrest report as a transient from Moore, was indicted in Oklahoma City’s Western District federal court on a felony charge of bank robbery.

City to repair water main Saturday

LAWTON – Lawton’s water distribution division will make repairs to a water main at NW 14th Street and NW Logan Avenue beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, the city said in a news release. Temporary repairs were made to the water main Feb.
