County finishes Coombs Road bridge project

Lawton revives mask mandate

OKLAHOMA CITY – More than $5 billion in state and federal unemployment benefits have been paid out in Oklahoma in the last 17 months – and perhaps half a billion dollars of that was siphoned off by fraud, hacking and identity theft, federal auditors contend.

New addition means more homes for Altus

ALTUS – A new residential addition that will provide up to 112 multi-family homes received final approval by the Altus City Council Tuesday, Aug. 3.
Bids on the development’s streets, water and sewer systems will be taken in 30-45 days, Altus City Manager Gary Jones said.

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.52 of an inch for the week of July 26-Aug. 1, with the north-central district recording the highest total at 1 inch.
Drought conditions were rated 9% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, unchanged from the previous week, according to the July 27 U.S.

Mayor Stan Booker, who is seeking his second term in office, and challenger Sherene Williams are both vying for the mayor’s slot. No one else had filed for the position as of Tuesday afternoon.
