United States Supreme Court Justice William Douglas once wrote, “common sense often makes a good law.” Perhaps his assessment is true, but what is common sense? Other than two words strung together, often used to mock someone for not knowing how to change a tire or boil water, what is common sense?
It is next to impossible to get a majority of eligible voters to the polls for any election. School bond elections are perhaps the worst attended. As few as 5 to 10% of the electorate is expected to cast their vote as to whether or not a facility needs a new roof.

Proud to be an Okie

I might have not had a vote in the decision that resulted me in being born in Texas, but I have for the last 18 years continued to choose again and again to call Oklahoma home. I haven’t stayed for the money, the fame, the low-point beer or any other materialistic reason.
For most of us, Labor Day is the perfect day to purchase new furniture, a new car or take advantage of last-minute sales. It is the last day of summer activities and the perfect day for a picnic or BBQ.

Like nearly every other American holiday, Labor Day means a day of respite, a day to disconnect from the grind, a day of our own making. A small number among us will set aside a few minutes to ponder the meaning of Labor Day.
