Lawton OKs $2M more in funding for FISTA

LAWTON – Lawton City Council has granted the FISTA Development Trust Authority’s request for an additional $2 million, which will come from the city’s 2019 Industrial Development Capital Improvement Projects fund. The council voted 7-0 Tuesday to approve the request. Councilman Jay Burk was absent.

LAWTON — Lawton City Council said goodbye Monday to an outgoing councilman and welcomed his replacement. The council hosted a swearing-in ceremony for Mayor Stan Booker, returning Councilwoman Mary Ann Hankins and incoming Councilman Kelly Harris in the City Hall Auditorium.

Lawton approves premium pay plan for pandemic employees

LAWTON — Lawton City Council has signed off on a plan to reward employees who worked through the pandemic. The council recently authorized City Manager Michael Cleghorn to use part of the city’s American Rescue Plan Act dollars to implement the plan.

Harris takes Ward 2 seat by 5 votes

LAWTON – Five votes made the difference for Lawton City Council candidate Kelly Harris. Harris captured 210 votes in Tuesday’s runoff election for the Ward 2 seat on the council, or about 50% of the total. His opponent, Mark Malone, finished with 205 votes – about 49% of the total.

With the primary election for the Lawton City Council behind them, candidates are preparing for November’s vote.   Candidates Kelly Harris and Mark Malone survived the Sept. 14 primary election for the Ward 2 seat on the council, setting the stage for a runoff election in November.
