LAWTON – The City of Lawton, in collaboration with the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority, will host its annual Trash Off event May 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the McMahon Memorial Auditorium parking lot, 801 NW Ferris.

OKLAHOMA CITY – A Lawton man well-known to southwest Oklahoma law enforcement officers was convicted April 15 in the Western District federal court in Oklahoma City with using a fake bomb to rob a Lawton financial institution 13 months ago.

Lawton switches from twice-a-week to once-a-week trash pick-up starting April 5. Depending on where you live, refuse will be collected on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. Wednesdays will be reserved for once-a-month curbside pick-up of as much as 4 cubic yards of solid waste.

LAWTON – Residential trash collection in Lawton will transition to once-a-week pick-up on April 5. Under the new schedule, refuse will be collected: • Mondays in Area 1: north of Gore Boulevard, south of Rogers Lane and west of 38th Street. Bulk pick-up will be on the first Wednesday of the month.

LAWTON—Within a few months, a Slim Chickens franchise will open in Lawton. That’s the word coming from franchise owner Colt Harmon, who has a multi-franchise company with fast-food brands in nearby states. “Lawton really jumped off the map to us. We want it to be a bang,” Harmon said.

LAWTON – The sub-freezing temperatures that settled in Oklahoma for five days starting on Valentine’s Day wreaked havoc on Lawton’s water system that are still being addressed a month later.
