LAWTON – The City of Lawton has revived its mask mandate inside all municipal facilities where city staffers work or public services are administered by the city. The mandate went into effect at 8 a.m.

The race for the mayor’s seat on the Lawton City Council has drawn two candidates so far. Mayor Stan Booker, who is seeking his second term in office, and challenger Sherene Williams are both vying for the mayor’s slot. No one else had filed for the position as of Tuesday afternoon.

LAWTON – Comanche County’s 20 volunteer fire departments and the City of Lawton are “talking” to each other again after an interruption of seven months. The City of Lawton manages the dispatching duties for all volunteer fire departments (VFDs) in Comanche County.

LAWTON – First dates and marriage proposals at Wayne’s Drive Inn are part of the folklore passed down for more than seven decades. More than burgers, onion rings and large Coke, Wayne’s is a Lawton institution. It’s where teens cruised Friday nights starting in 1950.

LAWTON – A grand opening of Lawton’s new Public Safety Center is scheduled for May 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The three-story structure at 100 S. Railroad Street encompasses 106,778 square feet and will house the Fire Department, the Police Department, the City Jail, and the Municipal Court.
