Lawton mall renamed ahead of makeover

LAWTON — Central Mall has a new name and logo to go with its new concept. The mall will be known as Central Plaza from now on, said Jason Wells, managing broker and owner of Insight Commercial Real Estate Brokerage. “We want to bring it into modern times,” he said Tuesday.

United Way kicks off 2021 fundraising campaign

LAWTON — The chairman of United Way of Southwest Oklahoma’s 2021 fundraising campaign is confident that the organization will surpass this year’s goal, he said. “We are going to raise that money and go above and beyond,” said Hossein Moini.

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.05 of an inch for the week of Aug. 23-29, with the Panhandle district recording the highest total at 0.22 of an inch. Drought conditions were rated 12% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down three points from the previous week, according to the Aug. 24 U.

Authorities monitoring anthrax cattle death in Jackson County

ALTUS — A cow in Jackson County died mid-August after being exposed to bovine anthrax, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry confirmed Tuesday. ODAFF spokesperson Morgan Vance would not specify where in Jackson County the cow died, citing respect for the producer.
